The project is part of the Nouvelles Galeries ecosystem in Annecy, with a key challenge: to breathe new life into the western square, which provides access to Galeries Lafayette.
How can this space be transformed into an attractive, hybrid venue capable of hosting a variety of events, day and night, while managing the constraints of opening hours and traffic flow? The challenge was to design a modular space that is vibrant on a daily basis and ready to reinvent itself with each new event.

A scenographic toolbox

The architectural solution is based on a system of movable elements, designed as a veritable toolbox: curtains, bar, modules, seating.
The curtains—mirrored or black—can be used to close off the space completely or partially, play with light and reflections, or create an atmosphere conducive to projection.
The bar is at the heart of this strategy. When closed, its rear blends into the wooden façade and the island becomes informal seating, available to everyday users.
When open, it transforms into a fully equipped event bar: operational back bar, full service, identity reinforced by the Galeries' illuminated sign. Mobile, it can disappear completely if the context requires it, confirming its central role in the flexibility of the space.

The language of the stage

Drawing inspiration from the world of theater, the project is based on a series of custom-made flight cases that can be used to create a stage, informal seating, or a temporary pop-up store.
These modules, which are mobile but never cumbersome, offer a multitude of configurations: communication support, space partitioning, event furniture.
This theatrical language resonates naturally with the architecture of the venue, already marked by its large central chandelier. Together, they create the idea of a space in tension, ready to come alive at any moment. The square exudes movement and dynamism, constantly giving the feeling that “something is happening here.”

Daily entertainment

Beyond events, the square needed to remain lively at all times. Two large circular seats, which can be broken down into several elements, punctuate the space and invite free and varied uses.
These playful objects, which contribute to the square's identity, warm up the atmosphere and anchor entertainment in everyday life, while remaining faithful to the project's modular spirit.

Une boîte à outils scénographique

La réponse architecturale repose sur un système d’éléments mobiles, conçus comme une véritable boîte à outils : rideaux, bar, modules, assises.
Les rideaux — miroirs ou noirs — permettent de fermer totalement ou partiellement l’espace, de jouer sur la lumière et les reflets, ou de créer une atmosphère propice à la projection.
Le bar est au cœur de cette stratégie. Fermé, son arrière s’intègre dans la façade bois et l’îlot devient une assise informelle, offerte aux usagers du quotidien.
Ouvert, il se transforme en véritable bar événementiel tout équipé : arrière-bar opérationnel, service complet, identité renforcée par l’enseigne lumineuse des Galeries. Mobile, il peut disparaître totalement si le contexte l’exige, confirmant son rôle central dans la flexibilité de l’espace.

Le langage de la scène

Puisant dans l’univers scénique, le projet s’appuie sur une série de flight cases sur mesure, capables de composer une scène, des assises informelles, ou un pop-up store éphémère.
Ces modules, mobiles mais jamais encombrants, offrent une multiplicité de configurations : support de communication, partition de l’espace, mobilier événementiel.
Ce langage scénique trouve une résonance naturelle avec l’architecture du lieu, déjà marquée par son grand lustre central. Ensemble, ils installent l’idée d’un espace en tension, prêt à s’animer à tout instant. La place respire le mouvement et le dynamisme, donnant en permanence le sentiment qu’« il se passe quelque chose ici ».

Une animation au quotidien

Au-delà des événements, la place devait rester vivante en continu. Deux grandes assises circulaires, fragmentables en plusieurs éléments, rythment l’espace et invitent à des usages libres et variés.
Ces objets ludiques et identitaires réchauffent l’atmosphère et permettent d’ancrer l’animation dans le quotidien, tout en restant fidèles à l’esprit modulable du projet.
